Geekfest 2008...Revisited

In a previous post, I mentioned how I was looking forward to some movies. Well...that was then, this is now. Many of those movies have trailers out and they look fun. Here they are:

Speed Racer

Star Trek: Under Construction

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Batman: The Dark Knight
This is just a tad disturbing so do not watch if you are creeped out easily or are afraid of clowns (the bad guy, after all, is "The Joker").

I could not find the trailers for X-men or Wolverine. But nevertheless, the above movies should be fun to watch. I am a sucker for superhero movies, cartoon-into-live-action movies, and great-books-turned-into-movies movies. Should be a fun summer.

Yes, I Am A Geek

With new season of television shows starting, I have noticed that I have been watching mostly the sci-fi shows. Now, I realize that I should be watching less T.V. but with the help of TiVo, I can at least watch when I want and so my schedule is not dictated by the networks. Nevertheless, I was glad when the seasons for Stargate Atlantis and Doctor Who started up again. I am loving Eureka. I have noticed NBC is capitalizing on the sci-fi theme (not surprising since they own the Sci-Fi network). I have been enjoying Heroes, Journeyman, and Bionic Woman (sort of). I am even looking forward to the Battlestar Galatica new season (whether I should or not). My point is, I realize I am a science fiction geek.

That is why I was somewhat intrigued when I heard that George Lucas was coming out with a live-action T.V. series based on Star Wars (read the article here). Since half the sci-fi on t.v. is reworked shows from the 70's (Battlestar, Bionic Woman, Doctor Who) and they seem to be a doing a fairly good job with them, perhaps this Star Wars series has a chance.

I realize that in general science fiction shows do not match with my theology. Almost by definition, science fiction rules out the concept of God, especially as Creator, and holds up science as the answer to all of life's problems. The shows usually say, "If we could just develop the technology, we could solve...." and then enter any of life's problems: crime, death, disease, famine, whatever. As a believer, I realize that this is not the case and the answer to these issues is rooted in the saving work of Jesus Christ.

That being said, there is nothing like watching dogfights in space, time traveling, worm holes, robotic/bionic/cybernetic whozewhatis, firefights with lasers/phasers/ray guns/stun guns, and so on.

So, I am sure when it premieres, the ol' Tivo will be set to the new Star Wars series and I will give it a shot. Even if that does make me a geek.

2008 Movies or GEEKFEST!

It is probably old news but I found out that there are some cool movies coming out in 2008. Here is a list of those that I would not mind seeing in the theater:

Speed Racer - A live version of the cartoon. I loved that show. Below is shot of the Mach 5. Matthew Fox of Lost is going to be Racer X.

Star Trek XI - J.J. Abrams, the director of Lost, will be directing this movie (I see a theme here). Apparently, it will star James T. Kirk but it is rumored he will be played by Matt Damon. I sure like those Star Trek Movies.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - This is second book in the Naria series (that is, second as Lewis wrote them). My daughter and I are both excited about this movie.

Dark Knight - Which, of course, is another Batman movie in the vein of Batman Begins. Christian Bale will play Batman again and apparently he will fight a villian simply known as the Joker. Hmmmm.

X-Men 4 - With no official website, I do not know anything about this movie, but it is an X-Men movie.

Wolverine - I do not know what this movie is about either, but of the X-Men, he is the coolest.

While there are many more movies coming out in 2008, these are the few that I would like to see in the theater. I know most of these prove how big a geek I truly am but I cannot help it. SciFi and Hero movies are my weakness.
